I had high hopes for this hotel after seeing the promises of a $6 million renovation, but my experience was quite disappointing. While the indoor pool and location were decent and the staff was responsive when issues arose, the rooms fell short of expectations for the price. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you find a great deal, as the value simply wasn't there for a $600 per night rate.

Rooms
5.0
The room was light and airy but didn't match the expectations set by the hotel's claims; the bathroom was particularly cramped and outdated.
Service
7.0
Staff was attentive in addressing issues we faced during our stay, which helped ease some frustrations.
Location
8.0
The hotel's location was great, with easy access to various shops and dining options nearby.
Dining
5.0
Dining options were limited, and while the pool area offered some snacks, it felt mostly unorganized.
Facilities

The indoor pool was available but lacked cleanliness and upkeep, which detracted from the experience.

6.0/10

My stay at the hotel had a mix of enjoyable elements and concerning issues. The cleanliness and cozy ambiance were pleasant, but I was frustrated by the lack of communication regarding amenities and unexpected fees. The food service didn't meet my expectations, and it left me questioning the value for money.

Rooms
7.0
The rooms were comfortable, but I felt misled about the amenities promised, such as a microwave which was not available during my stay.
Service
5.0
Service was a mixed bag; I appreciated the staff's assistance when I requested missing items, but the overall communication could have been much clearer.
Location
8.0
The location was convenient, making it easy to explore the area, but lacked clarity on details regarding nearby attractions.
Dining
5.0
The dining experience was disappointing, with limited options and the quality of the food did not justify the prices.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities were decent, but the pool area could use a good cleaning to meet expectations for a spa hotel.

5.0/10

My stay at the hotel was quite disappointing, mainly due to the issues with the room and the lack of adequate response from management. While the hotel has some character and I appreciated the spa services, the overall experience was clouded by significant maintenance problems and disappointing customer service, which is a letdown for a place claiming to be of higher quality. I don't think I will choose this hotel again in the future.

Rooms
5.0
The room I was given was quite small and lacked many basic amenities you'd expect from a hotel of this supposed caliber, such as bathrobes, a fridge, and enough power outlets. The bathroom setup was awkward and cramped, leaving little room for toiletries.
Service
5.0
The service was lacking, particularly in terms of following up on our concerns. While some staff members were friendly, my issues were not addressed adequately, which was frustrating.

The facilities felt outdated, and the indoor pool area could use a good clean-up. There were some nice amenities, but they didn’t quite make up for the overall maintenance issues throughout the hotel.

My experience at Hotel Viking was quite mixed. While I appreciated the cozy ambiance and unique charm of the building, I encountered several issues that detracted from my stay. The rooms needed renovation and were far too distant from the lobby, making navigation cumbersome with luggage. On a positive note, there were some wonderful staff members who tried to be accommodating. However, the lack of attention to detail and some rude interactions really stood out. Overall, the hotel has potential but currently feels outdated and in need of a refresh.

Rooms
5.0
The room was spacious but in dire need of renovation, and its location was inconveniently far from the lobby.
Service
5.0
There were moments of great service, especially from the busboy, but overall the staff had an unhelpful attitude.
Location
7.0
The location was decent, positioned within a reasonable driving distance to popular attractions in Newport.
Dining
5.0
Dining options were severely lacking, and breakfast service did not meet the expected standard.
Facilities
5.0
Facilities seemed outdated, particularly needing upgrades to maintain their appeal.

The Hotel Viking offers a wonderful experience with its elegant charm and comfortable accommodations. I loved the spacious rooms and the relaxing indoor pool, which was perfect for our family. The dining options were delightful, especially the Sunday brunch. However, be prepared for valet and resort fees that can add up. Overall, it’s a great value, especially for a family getaway.
